DoP seeking to computerise all post offices by 2012-end
Vadodara, Jan 8 (PTI) Department of Post is seeking to computerise all the 1.55 lakh post offices in the country by the end of 2012, said Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sachin Pilot today.
Pilot was talking to reporters after launching 3G services in seven cities of Gujarat through video conferencing here.
He said that of 1,55,015 post offices in the country, only 12,604 have been computerised so far, and Department of Posts aims to computerise the rest by the end of 2012.
Talking about telecom network, he said that only the government-owned companies such as BSNL were putting up infrastructure and providing connectivity in the remote areas, or Naxalism affected areas such as Jharkhand.
For facilitating e-governance in Gujarat, the Department of Information Technology, Government of India is contributing Rs 91.

I. The Dte instructions reg PA / SA Induction training vide Memo No : 60-9 / 2010 - SPB - 1 Dt. 30.12.10 is follows.
01. Issue : The Pre-appointment formalities like verification of Police, Dt Administration & Educational Boards will not be able to complete before 10.02.11.
Response : The time lines framed by Dte vide Lr No : 60-9/2010-SPB-1 Dt 10.11.10 may be strictly adhere to. The CPMGs may approach concern authorities to speed up & complete the process early.
02. Issue : Suggestion of Candidates be sent for Trg before completion of pre-appointment formalities as in Sl.1
Response : Not acceptable. Before Trg all necessary formalities should be completed.
03. Issue : In Merit List, the formalities of Junior candidates was completed whereas Seniors not completed, whether the Juniors can be deputed for Trg.
Response : No. Candidates should be deputed for Trg strictly according to the Merit List.
04. Duration of In-house Trg & Allowances : Duration to be decided by HoCs only. From the Dt of joining all Candidates will be entitled to Regular Pay & Allowances in the relevant Pay Band. No question of Stipend / allowance arise.
II. The Dte instructions reg PA / SA Induction training vide Memo No : 1-22 / 2010 - Trg Dt. 06.01.11 is follows.
The PA / SA Induction training will starts at PTC on 25.02.11. If the No. of candidates is not available in the 1st session commencing on 25.02.11, Circles can depute the PA LGOs candidates those are awaiting for Trg can be used in consultation with concern PTCs
DEPARTMENT OF POSTS TO INTRODUCE CREDIT CARDS FOR RURAL PEOPLE
The Department of Post (DoP) will introduce a prepaid credit card in association with leading banks including IDBI, HSBC and ICICI to rural people, which will facilitate non-cash transactions for purchasing products and services.
The card - 'White label Pre-paid Cards' - will come with pre-determined cash value and could be operated at merchant locations, ATMs and designated post offices subject to approval by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Disclosing his department's 100-day agenda, Telecom and IT Minister Kapil Sibal has said: "The department during the current fiscal year will introduce pre-paid parcel boxes for domestic parcels for one kg, 2.5 kg and five kg.
"The boxes will be sold through over 800 post offices across the country," he added He further said that the Government would complete the up-gradation of 15 speed post centres by March 31.
DoP will also finalise the vendors for information technology solutions, which include customer interaction management, mail operations, banking, postal life insurance, enterprise-wide human resource management, among others. The project is phased over the financial years 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13
