The Constitution consists of the following
1.  The Preamble
2.   Parts 1 to XX11  covering articles 1  to  395
3. Schedule 1 to  12 and
4. An appendix  IX
2. The  states and territories therof  shall be as specified in the first schedule (Art 2)  

3. The union has exclusive power to make laws on all matters in List  1 of  the seventh schedule (union List)  

Residuary Power  -  The union  has exclusive power to make  laws  on any  matter not  enumerated in the concurrent list or state list

Over riding powers – In case of any  conflict between Union Laws , the Union laws shall prevail – Article 254

Fundamental rights are granted to citizens under Article 12 to 35 of the constitution

The 16th and 24th amendments have considerably limited the exercise of fundamental Rights

The 42nd amendment act 1976 has incorporated into the constitution a new chapter on fundamental duties under Part IV-A and article 51- A

Article 36 to 51 of the constitution (Part IV) lay down 19  Objectives

There shall be a President of India (article 52) who is the Executive head of state (Article 53(1)  and the supreme commander of the Armed Forces (Article 53 (2)

The Governor of a state is the Executive head of  the state government (Article 155 and 156)

With a view to grant constitutional  status to Panchayati  Raj Institutions  the parliament passed  the 73rd constitution Amendment Act   in December 1992  

Article 368 deals with amendment of the constitution . 

There are 12 schedules to the constitution

The ninth schedule was added by the first Amendment to the constitution in 1951  and the 11th and 12th by the 73rd and 74th Amendment in 1992

Impeachment -  Procecution of a very  high public official by the legislature for alleged offence otherwise beyond the normal reach of law

Quo  warranto  - It is a proceeding whereby the court enquiries into the legality of the claim  which a party asserts to a public office and to and to oust him from  its enjoyment of the if the claim be not well founded .
